Every July, the Texas State 4-H Horse Show brings 4-H families from all over Texas to the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan for a full week of classes. In 2026, Texas A&M AgriLife reported 311 exhibitors and 448 horses, and called it one of the nation's premier youth equine events. A week at the show means a week of early mornings, hot afternoons and a lot of laundry. Howdy Home is a 3-bedroom house in Bryan, about 13 minutes from the Expo, with a washer and dryer and a full kitchen.

2027 show dates
The 2027 dates haven't been announced yet. The 2026 show ran in the third week of July (the Expo listed July 18–24, and Texas 4-H listed July 19–25). Texas 4-H posts each year's dates, schedule and rules on its horse show page. We'll add the 2027 dates here as soon as they're official. If you know your family is going, ask about dates once the show is announced, since a week-long stay in late July can be booked ahead.
A show-week routine from the house
- Mornings: Classes start early. Self check-in with a keypad and a Keurig in the kitchen make the 13-minute drive easier at dawn.
- Midday breaks: Go back to the house for lunch and central air during the hottest part of a Texas July day.
- Evenings: Wash show clothes and barn clothes in the in-unit washer and dryer. Cook dinner on the gas stove or the backyard grill with a pizza oven, and let the kids unwind in the fenced backyard.
- Off-day: Heritage Park is less than half a mile away, and Downtown Bryan is a 10-minute walk for dinner out.
Getting to the Brazos County Expo
The Expo is at 5827 Leonard Rd., about 5 miles from the house, roughly 13 minutes by car without traffic, by way of Groesbeck Street and Leonard Road. The house has 3 driveway spaces and 1 street spot. It doesn't have trailer parking, so keep the truck and trailer at the Expo. Stalls are reserved through the 4-H entry system, and RV spots are first-come, first-served through Texas 4-H.
Food and supplies nearby
For a week's worth of groceries, Kroger on Boonville Road is about 6 minutes from the house, and H-E-B on N. Texas Ave. is about 5. Downtown Bryan's locally owned restaurants, including The Proudest Monkey, are about a 10-minute walk for a celebration dinner after finals.
